Legendary Goth rockers in a Balearic classic shocker!!! Yes that’s right, the big-haired and heavy black eyeliner band Sisters of Mercy is today’s SOTD!

B-side to the 1983 12″ release of Alice, this slow-mo/low-slung track is apparently a favourite of a certain Daniele Baldelli. Fitting nicely with the cosmic aesthetic, Phantom carries a hint of melancholy (well, it is the Sisters of Mercy) but has one hell of a groove, which should make even the most ardent Goth hater investigate this hidden gem. See it as a ‘Goth not Goth’ number. If you know what I mean.

Sisters of Mercy – Phantom

Inspired by the wonderful weekend, I thought this little-known Balearic dazzler would capture all the sunshine and loveliness of the past few days. Or something like that.  Most of you might remember this track being featured on the fantastic Claremont 56 compilation ‘Originals’ which was released earlier this year. With the right blend of laidback soul and leftfield disco balearica, this should be featuring on many BBQ ipod playlists over the summer (somebody give me a job at the Guardian!!).
