Often confused with P&P’s Peter Brown, this hypnotic and incredibly funky track from the other disco Peter Brown was released in 1977 on the TK off-shoot label, Drive.

The b-side to his smash hit Do You Want To Get Funky With Me, ‘Burning Love Breakdown’ is a sparse and downtempo Chicago classic that has been sampled and looped by the likes of Ron Hardy and Derrick Carter.

With its bubbling bass and windy electronics, it continues to be a seminal disco track that still burns up any ol’ discotheque. HOT!

Everybody’s favourite cuddly bear (well, he’s certainly mine and Alan’s) Demis Roussos’ ‘Let It Happen’ is a thundering cover of a Vangelis classic. Featured on his 1977 album Magic (which I highly recommend you try and track down just for the AMAZING inlay portrait of the lovely Demis), this hazy and blissful Balearic disco number from Greece’s number one musical export is as irresistible as his other disco cut, ‘I Dig U’(which is also from the same album). So let the big bear give you a big hug with this cosmic cult groove.

A nice and sleazy cover of a Pink Floyd classic from 1977 for ya this morning, what else do you need to know??? Well, it’s a balearic favourite due it’s dirty bassline and fruity vocals. Taken from an album comprising of Pink Floyd classics recorded by French session musicians , this is probably the pick of the bunch. It’s the grooviest tribute to Roger Waters and co that I’ve ever heard but if you know of any more please let me know, because I dig that sort of thing.

Masterminds behind acts such as El Coco, Le Pamplemousse (love that name), Saint Tropez and Tuxedo Junction, W. Michael Lewis & Laurin Rinder are considered to be one of the best disco production outfits of all time.

Gluttony is a pulsating, sleazy disco track. Sampled by many but bettered by none, this is an electrifying track that will kick start your week in thrilling fashion.

Hello Space Cadets! Join us as we continue our far out cosmic trip from the last post! Today’s SOTD comes from Michael Bundt, who was the bassist of German progressive rock outfit Nine Days Wonder.

Taken from his debut 1977 solo album Just Landed Cosmic Kid, “Brain of Oskar Panizza” is a cult piece of early electronica. Beaming warped breakbeats and synthesizers from outer space, this track is absolutely essential for people interested in electronics or house music or crazy shit. Also, Bundt kinda looks like Michael Caine from Dressed to Kill on the LP cover. Isn’t that just wonderful???

A slice of classic space disco for you today, courtesy of Herman’s Rocket (what a name!). Originally released in 1977 and commissioned by Italian producer Meme Ibach (Karen Cheryl), Herman’s Rocket was created by legendary French producer Jean-Pierre Massiera and his half brother Bernard Torelli.

Hopping aboard the ever so popular space disco trend of the time, the Rockets used nutty sci-fi themes and interstellar cosmic grooves. Considered too crazy at the time, today’s SOTD (as well as the rest of Massiera’s signature productions), it has since gained cult status amongst disco aficionados and other like-minded dudes.

Taken from their self-titled album (first and last), Space Woman is wonderful barmy treat which still sounds light-years ahead from anything, ever. So, get dreaming about space before the snow gets ya!

(Oh yeah, the above picture is actually the LP cover not the actual single cover. I thought it looked cooler. And funnier.

It sure is Paul. It sure is. Anyway….

I’m off to Berlin for a few days, so to soften the blow here’s a easy-listening disco song for ya from light-music composer/conductor Paul Mauriat .

Best known for his version of Andre Popp’s ‘Love Is Blue’, this is the 1973 ’disco’ version. When Salsoul featured it on their ‘Salsoul Disco Boogie: Super Hits For Non-Stop Dancing’ in 1977, its place in disco history was kinda assured. The long version is less cheesy than the original, with more emphasis on percussion and melody. Its easy to see why it became a favourite on the dancefloor.

Enjoy the sunshine folks and I’ll see you next week!

Cat Stevens In A Weird-Disco-Record Shocker Alert!!

By the late seventies, Cat Stevens managed to annoy the majority of his fanbase by going through a crazy ‘electronic/disco’ phase. As most established stars experimented with the ‘new disco craze’ (Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Kiss, etc etc), today’s SOTD is Cat Stevens’ wonderful and weird attempt.

Originally from the album ‘Izitso’, this is the rare 1977 special disco version released on A & M. With futuristic electronics and a truly exuberant bassline, it inspired everyone from Afrika Bambaataa to New Order and a whole host of legendary New York DJs (this was a huge favourite at Jellybean Benitez’s Funhouse back in the early eighties). Not to be confused with his 1966 hit ‘I Walk My Dog’, this is the finest track ever to have a dog bark as its intro. If that doesn’t entice you to have a listen I don’t know what will.

Slightly keeping with the vampire theme of yesterday (ahem) today’s newly formed RECORD OF THE DAY was simply too good for a Single of the Day’ accolade. Why? Well read on my friend!

The majority of blogs normally post Hot Blood rarities around Halloween time (for the obvious reasons) but since a one-off pressing of the abum was released last week, there’s simply no reason why the fantastic Hot Blood should be kept just for Halloween.

Majority of disco fans will probably know the band for their unique disco novelty single ‘Soul Dracula’ (see the fantastic video at the end of the post!) but Hot Blood were one of Germany’s finest disco exports (not hard I know but…) and the musical brainchild of no other than Stephan Klinkhammer – (Mr. Boney M. to you and me). it also had the ‘M’s Marcia Bennett of vocal and general heavy breathing duties. Released in 1977, it bears all the kitchy hallmarks of disco of that era - sexy strings, the ‘woos-woos’, the mentioning of ‘disco’ and ‘dancefloor’, as well as a campy Dracula laughing! Those crazy Germans!

But still, this is still considered one of the best ‘horror/disco’ records around and originals go for crazy amounts so snap one up asap. The only drawback of the re-issue is that it doesn’t have the original sexy cover which features Calvin Klein model Lisa Taylor (Thanks to Disco Delivery for this bit of info!) but hey, you can’t win ‘em all. Sex, the 1970′s, Dracula, Boney M, busty maidens, disco, models, Boney M – what more do you people want?!

Here’s two ‘fang-shaped’ treats for ya!
