Soup For One

August 27, 2008 8:26 pm / by / no comments

Hi everybody. I’m a bit ill today. Don’t worry, I’ll be alright (it’s just a sore throat with a little bit of a cold). So this post will be slightly self-pitying (well, just the first song) and slightly shorter in length. Also it will feature a couple of tunes that have got me groovin’ over the past week, which probably resulted me being in this state. DAMN YOU LUCKY STRIKES!!!!

CHIC – SOUP FOR ONE (WARNER BROS.)

Soup For One cover

As i mentioned earlier, this is purely for self- pitying reasons. Labelled as a ‘silly loner song’ by many, this track is actually from a raunchy 1982 sex-comedy (worst genre name ever – Alan, could you do a feature about the “greatest ever sex-comedies”? I can’t think of any – I’m ill) film starring Saul Rubinek (whaddya mean you ain’t heard of him?!).  It boasted an magnificent soundtrack featuring Carly Simon’s balearic classic ‘Why?’, Tendy Pendergrass’ ‘Dream Girl’, Debbie Harry’s ‘ ‘Jump Jump’ as well as Chic (‘I Want Your Love’, ‘Tavern On The Green’ and this post’s featured song). Anyway, this will banish my throat-related blues away, This and Strepsils (Oh yeah, you lot might recognise this tune, as it was sampled by Modjo for their lovely summer smash ‘Lady’ – don’t let that put you off).

COLE MEDINA – LOVE YOU INSIDE OUT (THE PINCHES REMIX)

“Love You Inside Out” cover

Yes, it’s a Bee Gees re-edit! I stumbled across this at the Electric Soul shindig over the weekend. I have to admit that a rather upsetting encounter with the short-arsed-bearded-I bet he worked at Music Video Exchange-the knob-head-  DJ left me slightly bemused but at least I came away with this little number (If you want to know what happened when David (me) took on Goliath (shit DJ) drop us an email if you can be bothered or just carry on as normal). Back to the music! I reckon this could well be one of the re-edits of the year. With its extended intro, subtle cut-ups and the Bee Gees’ annoying (ok, sometimes annoying) warbling left to a devasting loop, Cole Medina have spoiled us. They really have.

FIVE LETTERS – THA KEE THA THA (ATROPIA)

I kept hearing this everywhere last week and I remembered I had it somwhere and I thought I post cuz it’s well good. Featured on Strut’s ‘Disco Italia’ compilation, a Baldelli favourite and a rare Italo find, this is a nice and sleazy but quite cheery Gallic number (it was produced by Dennis Desrouvres – who is French). Lovely Italo stuff!
