Aneet may sneer, but I am a self-confessed Elton John mega-fan (although that stops dead at 1979′s horrendous disco album, Victim of Love; they all did a disco album at some point, didn’t they Aneet?). And the angry, stinking rich oddball is responsible for my favourite Christmas song of all time, the truly terrific ‘Step into Christmas’!

It’s not hard to see why so many 70s glam rockers tried their hand at a Christmas song (and Elton was glam, kids; check out Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which knocks Bowie into a cocked platform boot), after all Christmas is a time when the whole world goes a bit glam, is it not? You had Slade with ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’, Wizzard with ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’, and, erm, Gary Glitter’s ‘Another Rock ‘n’ Roll Christmas’. But, as great as they all are, Elton just about pinches it with this stomping ode to everyone’s favourite annual religious festival.

There’s the title to begin with; you can almost picture him literally stepping into Christmas, most likely whilst wearing a humongous pair of sparkly platform boots. Personally, I’d give anything to be able to step into Christmas. It sounds wonderful.

Just like this wonderful song, the barmy video for which you can find below. Whatever you may think about Elton and his potential merits, you can’t deny that he knows how to have a good time! Look how much fun he’s having in this video! My FAVOURITE BIT IN A MUSIC VIDEO EVER!!! occurs at roughly 2.13 when Sir Elton oddly displays his fucking Watford season ticket to the camera! How ace is that?! It’s also topical as he recently had to tell Watford’s current chairman off for being a total mug. Speaking of which, did you know that Graham Taylor and Elton John used to go carol-singing around Watford together in the 70s? Imagine opening your door to them two!

Anyway, just step into Christmas…
