Today’s SOTD is taken from the new ‘History Elevate’ compilation celebrating the illustrious career of a certain Kevin Saunderson. Born on the 9th May 1964, Brooklyn New York, Saunderson is the creative powerhouse of legendary dance acts Kreme, Inner City and E-Dancer and alongside Juan Atkins and Derrick May, he is regarded as one of the innovators of techno.

’Heat it Up’ was Saunderson’s first ever remix. Released in 1988, it’s a jackin’, acid-tweakin’, pumped up, hip-house ‘banger’ that has aged surprisingly well and would easily fit in with the latest ‘Hip-House’ revival alongside  Yo Majesty, Sinden, Diplo and even Dizzee Rascal (but only miles better) . The ‘History Elevate’ compilation also features his classic remixes for Cerrone (‘Supernature’), Pet Shop Boys (‘Go West’) and more recently Hercules & Love Affair (‘You Belong’), it’s well worth seeking out as it also has a disc of remixed Saunderson tracks from the likes of John Tejada, Luciano and Simian Mobile Disco amongst many other good people.

‘History Elevate’ is out this week on KMS/Fabric so go and buy it!
