Single of the Day – Herman’s Rocket – Space Woman

spacewoman

A slice of classic space disco for you today, courtesy of Herman’s Rocket (what a name!). Originally released in 1977 and commissioned by Italian producer Meme Ibach (Karen Cheryl), Herman’s Rocket was created by legendary French producer Jean-Pierre Massiera and his half brother Bernard Torelli.

Hopping aboard the ever so popular space disco trend of the time, the Rockets used nutty sci-fi themes and interstellar cosmic grooves. Considered too crazy at the time, today’s SOTD (as well as the rest of Massiera’s signature productions), it has since gained cult status amongst disco aficionados and other like-minded dudes.

Taken from their self-titled album (first and last), Space Woman is wonderful barmy treat which still sounds light-years ahead from anything, ever. So, get dreaming about space before the snow gets ya!

(Oh yeah, the above picture is actually the LP cover not the actual single cover. I thought it looked cooler. And funnier.

Music has lost its sense of humour over the years. This is a great tune and a reminder to not take yourself too seriously!
