Single of the Day – Conrad Schnitzler – Fabrik
Today’s deliciously deranged SOTD is from Teutonic electronic legend Conrad Schnitzler. A former member of Tangerine Dream and Cluster, our very Conny (as I like to call him) is one of the most prolific and innovative electronic producers of all time.
On this wonderfully mental track, taken from his 1981 EP Auf Dem Schwarzen Kanal, Fabrik was Conrad’s attempt at pop superstardom. Despite being disjointed and well, frankly bizarre, the track has a glittering and hypnotic quality that is simply mesmerizing. Warped synths and industrial strength drums chime in eerie unison, while Conny camps it up with some crazy German talk. Reassuringly wild. Gotta love those crazy Germans!
