Re-edits, Re-releases and Re-ally sorry

Hi all. Well you wait for one post then two come at once. Again apologies for the delay, I won’t bore you with the details of our AWOL postings so let’s crack on! Right, a lot of quality re-edits and re-releases (as the post header indicates) have been floating around this and last week, so I’ve picked the best of the lot. Sorry it’s not an in-depth post but i promise more of those in the future. Really! I promise! First up…..

LAMA/THAI BREAK – LOVE IS ON THE ROCKS/FLOWERS IN THE RAIN (SERGE SANTIAGO EDITS) (ARCOBALENO)

LAMA/THAI BREAK - Love Is On The Rocks (Front Cover)

Serge Santiago returns with an awesome double-header re-edit package, comprising of two crazy 80s italo/electro smashes, this is well worth splashing your money on (the originals go for crazy amounts). On the A-side is a hi-NRG (NO! Wait come back! It’s not that bad!) cover of the classic balearic number ‘Il Veliero’ by The Chaplin Band. (Not familiar with the original? Well, with me being nice and that, I’ve posted it for you so go and have a listen below)

Anyway, Serge beefs up the original, adding some extra firepower to the bassline making it work for the dancefloor. Similar handling of the B-Side – Thai Break’s 1985 wonder hit (in Belgium) ’Flowers In The Rain’ but a lot more driving and pulsating. If that makes any sense. Oh and another thing, they’re not that ‘fruity’, well just a little, you know what I mean.

LSB EDITS INC. PRESENTS SUPERDISCOTECA – THE RAIN/SHOUT (SUPERDISCOTECA)

LSB EDITS INC - Shout (Front Cover)

For those who don’t know, nu-disco/balearic don Pete Herbert and frequent collaborator Georgina Fernandez are LSB. After releasing an album of re-edits last year, they return with this fantastic 12″ release. Weaving their rejigging magic on Don Ray’s disco standard ‘Standing In The Rain’ and the Adonis produced Jack Frost And The Circle Jerks ‘Shout’, this is (sorry in advanced for using this phrase) dancefloor dynamite! ‘Shout’ is causing the most stir amongst the clubs and pubs and working men’s clubs with its teasing EBM feel and stomping old school acid lines.  Highly recommended.

JACKPOT – UN DOS TRES/MOVE IN THE LIGHT (SERVICE SWEDEN)

JACKPOT - Uno Dos Tres (Front Cover)

Dear reader, as I was about post this record up, I noticed that the record that I had ordered wasn’t the one I ordered. It turns out that the folk at Juno posted me the wrong fucking record. Instead of a classic 1983 italo collaboration with Marco Donatello and Gleen Asp which is reminiscent of Number Of Names’ ‘Sharevari’, I got a god-awful minimal house record (BTW who still listens to minimal fucking house?!!!). So, I decided to post this up regardless, because after I have put on my complaining voice and when I’ve been sent the correct record the songs will be posted, as they are too good to be missed. I’m really pissed off. YOU’RE A DEAD MAN JUNO! YOU HEAR ME? A DEAD MAN!!!

LOUD-E – PINCHROLLER (OBJECTS OF DESIRE HOLLAND)

LOUD E - Hey Mr DJ (Front Cover)

Right, after the debacle of the last post this is exactly what I need -  a nice big, stomping, chugging disco edit. Loud-E is one of the hottest remixers/re-edit blokes around. Taking his cue from cosmic legends such as Daniele Baldelli, Harvey etc he knows exactly what works. This is big. I mean big guitar licks big, drums big and even a big flamenco guitar bit. Right enough ‘bigs’ have a listen.

BETTY BOTOX – MMM…BETTY VOL.1 (RE-EDITS) (Endless Flight)

BETTY BOTOX - Mmm Betty! Vol 1 (Front Cover)

Hurrah! Betty Botox is back! Betty is Optimo’s J.D Twitch and we’re fortunate to finally get a chance to collect some incredibly rare personal faves all on one 12″  and specially re-edited by the man himself. Featuring The Residents, Love Of Life Orchestra and The Jellies, I have picked the latter two for your enjoyment.Up first, the simply stunning Love Of Life Orchestra’s ‘Beginning Of The Heartbreak’ (which you might remember being the opener from the amazing James Murphy and Pat Mahoney Fabriclive mix from last year). Slightly tweaked for the maximum aural delight, it blends in ’Don’t Don’t’ (which was also on the 1980 release ‘Extended Niceties’), which is quite a feat in itself (for those wondering why I haven’t gone in to detail about the Love Of Life Orchestra is because a Peter Gordon special is planned very soon).

Up next is the marvellous Jellies with ‘Jive Baby On A Saturday Night’. Crossing Tom Tom Club & ESG’s ‘punky-funky’ rhythms with a slight dark edged wackiness, this should be in everyone’s record box marked under ‘Secret Special DJ Weapon’. Thanks Betty! Say hello to Frank!

RON TRENT – ALTERED STATES (PRESCRIPTION CLASSICS RECORDINGS)

TRENT, Ron - Altered States (Front Cover)

Ahhhhhh, a nice piece of classic techno to round off the post. Released in 1990 on Armando’s Warehouse label, a young Ron Trent (rumoured to be only 19 or so when he recorded it) produced this beautiful, atmospheric piece of techno. With lovely building strings and urgent 808 drum patterns you can see why this is spoken in awe in beardy-techno circles. Now repressed on lovely green vinyl, there’s no excuse for you not to own it.
